Inconel 718 Round Bars & Rods: Manufacturer, Supplier & Exporter
USA Piping Solution is a distinguished manufacturer, supplier and exporter of premium Inconel 718 Round Bars. Our products also known as 718 Round Bar or Inconel 718 Bar are designed to deliver superior performance in the most severe environments. Inconel 718 is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-chromium alloy popular for its notable tensile, yield and stress-rupture characteristics at temperatures up to 1300°F (704°C). The material's remarkable corrosion resistance and weldability make it an perfect choice for a wide range of difficult industrial operations. We provide a complete range of Inconel 718 rod in various sizes and finishes, all fully certified to meet international quality standards.

What is Inconel 718?
Inconel 718 is a high-strength, corrosion-resistant nickel-chromium superalloy that is known for its ability to retain exceptionally-high structural integrity across an exceptionally large temperature range (-423 °F to 1300 °F; -253 °C to 704 °C). Operating in both extremes is a distinguishing characteristic of Inconel 718 compared to most alloys. Inconel 718 is composed unique to other nickel-chromium superalloys in that it contains substantial amounts of niobium and molybdenum, which means it not only has outstanding resistance to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking and pitting, but it also has excellent creep-rupture strength as well. The strengthening mechanism of Inconel 718 is a slow precipitation-hardening process, but this mechanism allows for high levels of weldability with negligible risk of spontaneous-cracking that can occur if rapidly cooled. The Inconel 718 round bar can ultimately be applied to a broad range of high-performance machinery with reliability.

Inconel 718 Round Bar Manufacturing Process
The manufacturing of Inconel 718 bars typically involves:
- Melting: Using processes like Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) followed by Electroslag Remelting (ESR) or Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) to ensure high purity and a refined grain structure.
- Forging & Rolling: The resulting ingot is hot-worked by forging or hot rolling into bar stock.
- Heat Treatment: The bars undergo a two-stage heat treatment:.
- Solution Annealing: Heating to a high temperature (around 955-1010°C or 1750-1850°F) to dissolve strengthening phases.
- Precipitation Hardening (Aging): A two-step aging process (e.g., 720°C/1325°F for 8 hours, followed by 620°C/1150°F for 8 hours) to precipitate the γ' and γ'' phases that give the alloy its exceptional strength.
- Finishing: The bars are then finished to the required size, tolerance, and surface condition through processes like peeling, grinding, cold drawing, or polishing.

What is the main advantage of Inconel 718 over standard stainless steel?
The primary advantage of Inconel 718 is its ability to maintain extremely high strength and corrosion resistance at temperatures up to 1300°F (704°C), where standard stainless steels would lose their structural integrity. It is also highly resistant to stress-corrosion cracking and creep.
Is Inconel 718 difficult to machine?
Yes, due to its high strength and work-hardening properties, Inconel 718 is considered a challenging material to machine. It requires specialized tools, slow speeds, and high rigidity to achieve the desired results.
What forms of Inconel 718 are available?
Inconel 718 is available in many forms, including round bars, rods, plates, sheets, forgings, and pipes. The round bar is a common form used for forging or machining into high-strength components.
