Nickel Alloy UNS N08925 Pipe & Tube is a 6% molybdenum super-austenitic stainless steel available as per ASTM B677 and ASME SB-677. It is intended for use in the applications where chloride containing environments make 316L and even 904L alloys susceptible. The material contains about 25% nickel and 20% chromium along with 6-7% molybdenum, 0.8 to 1.5% copper and controlled nitrogen which results in a pitting resistance equivalent number in the low forties. This pitting resistance allows it to perform in seawater, brine and flue gas desulphurisation applications without suffering from pitting or crevice corrosion attacks. The high content of nickel also helps in taking it out of the chloride stress corrosion cracking range of the standard austenitic stainless steels. Minimum tensile strength, yield strength and elongation are specified at 600 MPa, 295 MPa and 40%.
