Applications of Condenser Tubes Across Industries
Condenser tubes serve as the primary heat transfer element in industrial thermal systems. The application environment determines the correct material grade, wall schedule, and surface finish. Our Boiler and Heat Exchanger Tubes range covers the full spectrum from boiler feedwater heating to final condensate recovery.
Power Plant Surface Condensers — Thousands of seamless ASTM A179 carbon steel condenser tubes form the tube bundles in thermal power plant surface condensers, converting exhaust steam back into condensate under vacuum. Coastal and offshore plants using seawater cooling require CuNi 90-10 per ASTM B111 for chloride resistance.
Refinery Overhead Condensers — ASTM A213 T11 and T22 alloy steel tubes handle hydrocarbon vapors with hydrogen sulfide and chlorides at elevated temperatures. For aqueous acid-phase services, ASTM A249 TP316 stainless steel offers improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance.
HVAC Chiller Bundles — Admiralty Brass per ASTM B111 is standard in freshwater chiller bundles for its high thermal conductivity. Systems with recirculated tower water and elevated biocide dosing call for ASTM A249 TP316L for superior pitting resistance.
Seawater Coolers and Offshore Applications — CuNi 90-10 per ASTM B111 is the global standard for seawater service, combining inherent biofouling resistance with chloride corrosion performance across power plants, desalination preheaters, and offshore platform coolers.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between ASTM A179 and A214 condenser tubes?
A179 is seamless cold-drawn for high-integrity, vacuum, and IBR service. A214 is ERW-welded, same tensile ratings but suited for lower-pressure, non-critical duty at lower cost. See SA179/A179 and A214/SA214.
What is the best material for seawater condenser tubes?
CuNi 90-10 (ASTM B111) has superior chloride corrosion, pitting, and biofouling resistance. Admiralty Brass suits low-chloride freshwater service. Carbon steel (A179) is not recommended for seawater.
Are IBR-approved condenser tubes available?
Yes. IBR-approved condenser tubes in A179 and A213 grades available with Form III-B certification. Specify IBR requirement at inquiry for compliant MTRs. Suitable for NTPC, BHEL, and SEB projects.
Mill-certified stock. ASTM A179, A213, A249, B111. OD 6 mm to 76 mm. IBR approved on request. Full MTR documentation.
