They are made from niobium and tantalum stabilized austenitic stainless steel and are inherently resistant to sensitization and chromium carbide precipitation and intergranular corrosion after sensitization range exposure. In contrast, the columbium in SS 347 Seamless Tubes combines with carbon before it can combine with the chromium, which then has time to fulfill its corrosive resistance role. These tubes are delivered in the annealed condition and have been 100% hydrostatically tested and are commonly used in petrochemical, nuclear, aerospace and power boiler applications. Common sizes are stocked and custom sizes can be manufactured in short lead time.
