USA Piping Solution is a trusted supplier of Stainless Steel 420 Welded Tubes and SS 420 ERW Tubing to industrial customers in USA and worldwide. ASTM A268 TP420 Welded Tubes are made from flat stainless steel strip rolled into tubes with the seam welded by processes of Electric Resistance Welding (ERW) or Electric Fusion Welding (EFW). Welded Manufacturing Route is a cost efficient solution for seamless manufacturing and can be used to achieve a wider diameter range and faster delivery from stock for Stainless Steel 420 Welded Tubes. When used in the annealed condition, SS 420 Welded Tubes exhibit the same basic material characteristics as their seamless counterparts: good ductility, machinability and moderate corrosion resistance. The higher carbon content of UNS S42000 compared to Type 410 results in a higher hardness that can be achieved through heat treatment, when required by the application, in TP420 Welded Tubes. Alloy 420 Welded Tubes develop a close adhesion of chromium oxide on the surface which helps in resisting atmospheric corrosion, attack by potable water and mild organic and mineral acids. USA Piping Solution provides 3.1 mill test certificates, dimensional inspection reports and export packing for Stainless Steel 420 Welded Tubes to all parts of USA and abroad.

Post-Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) for TP420 Welded Tubes

Post-weld heat treatment is important for TP420 Welded Tubes to minimize the risk of hardening and cracking in the heat-affected zone (HAZ) during and after welding. The following parameters are recommended:

Step

Temperature / Procedure

Preheat before welding

150 to 260 deg C (300 to 500 deg F)

Post-weld anneal (stress relief)

650 to 760 deg C (1200 to 1400 deg F), air cool

Full post-weld anneal

830 to 885 deg C (1525 to 1625 deg F), slow furnace cool

Filler Metal (if required)

AWS E/ER 420 or AWS E/ER 309L for as-welded ductile joints

Cooling Requirement

Avoid rapid cooling through the 425 to 595 deg C range (embrittlement zone)
