SS 317L Welded Tube for FGD and Chemical Process Service
ASTM A249 TP317L is the primary specification for welded SS 317L boiler, superheater, heat exchanger, and condenser tubes. In FGD (flue gas desulphurisation) applications, where 317L is the standard material choice, welded tubing is the industry norm. FGD service does not impose the cycling thermal stresses that mandate seamless construction. The absorber outlet temperatures and wet scrubbing conditions are well within the operating envelope of welded 317L tube.
ASTM A249 requires 100% hydrostatic testing or NDE on every tube, providing the same pressure integrity assurance at 20% lower cost than seamless. For FGD absorber outlet ducts, pulp and paper bleach plant exchangers, and phosphoric acid service heat exchangers, welded SS 317L welded tube is the correct specification both technically and commercially.
