CuZn37 brass tubes are tubes of copper zinc alloy approximately 63% Copper 37% Zinc alloy mainly used for making general engineering parts and manufacturing, also known as CW508L and UNS C27200. Seamless tubes can be manufactured to EN 12449, the dimensions and mechanical properties depend on the temper and the service conditions. CuZn37 bends, flares and forms well in the half-hard and annealed tempers. A bad free-machining material uses a leaded brass for high-speed turning. Standard CuZn37 can, however, suffer dezincification in seawater and in aggressive stagnant water and in such cases, alternative alloys may be necessary. USA Piping Solution will include heat-number traceability with all CuZn37 Brass tubes supplied and a Mill Test Certificate (MTC) from EN 10204 3.1 with each order of CuZn37 Brass.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is CuZn37 brass?
CuZn37 is a yellow brass alloy containing approximately 63% copper and 37% zinc. It offers good strength and workability for general engineering applications.
2. Is CuZn37 the same as CW508L, CZ108 and C27200?
These are commonly associated designations for 63/37 brass. CW508L is the European designation, CZ108 is the British designation, and C27200 is the North American equivalent.
3. Which standard covers CuZn37 tube?
EN 12449 covers seamless copper and copper-alloy tubes for general purposes, including applicable CuZn37 tubes.
4. What is the difference between CuZn37 and CuZn30?
CuZn30 contains approximately 70% copper and 30% zinc, offering better cold-formability. CuZn37 contains approximately 63% copper and 37% zinc, generally providing a lower material cost.
5. Is CuZn37 lead free?
CW508L limits lead to 0.1% max, and UNS C27200 to 0.07% max. That is below the US 0.25% weighted-average definition of lead free, but potable use still needs NSF/ANSI 61 and 372 certification of the finished product.
6. Is CuZn37 suitable for seawater?
No. Standard CuZn37 is susceptible to dezincification in seawater. C44300 Admiralty Brass or C70600 Copper Nickel may be more suitable alternatives, depending on service conditions.
EN 12449 compliance. EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificates with heat-number traceability.
