Not every duty justifies a machined groove or a welded fin. Crimped finned tubes exist for exactly those jobs: the fin strip is crimped at its base and spiral-wound onto the tube under tension, no groove, no weld, which makes it the most economical wound fin available and the practical choice on larger tube diameters. How the Crimp Works
Crimping the strip's base does two things at once. It lets a flat strip bend around a curve: the crimps close up on the tube side and fan open on the outer edge, so the strip winds helically without buckling. And it multiplies contact: each crimp is a foot pressed against the tube wall, dozens per turn, held by winding tension. The result is a fin that goes on fast, on almost any tube size, at the lowest cost per finned metre of any construction we supply.

Same construction; the “spiral” name simply emphasizes the continuous helical winding. Compare quotes on fin height, pitch, and strip thickness rather than the name.
Why is crimped fin cheaper than L, G, or welded fin?
No foot forming, no groove machining, no welding: the strip is crimped and wound in one continuous fast operation, and it tolerates larger tube diameters without special tooling. The trade-off is grip, tension-held like L type, so its temperature ceiling sits around 250°C.
When is corrugated fin strip worth specifying?
When the exchanger is air-side limited and a few percent more heat transfer lets you shorten the bank. The ripples trip the boundary layer and stiffen the fin, at the cost of slightly higher pressure drop and marginally harder cleaning; clean-gas duties benefit most.
