Wrap aluminum strip onto a tube under tension, form the base of the strip into an L that lies flat against the tube wall, and every turn of fin now does two jobs at once: transferring heat and shielding the tube surface underneath from the atmosphere. Frequently Asked Questions
What actually fails first on an L type fin tube?
Fin grip. The wrap is held by tension, and repeated thermal cycling gradually relaxes it, opening a microscopic gap that acts as thermal resistance. That's why each variant has a temperature ceiling, and why KL's knurl and the embedded G construction exist.
Is LL fin a substitute for extruded fin in corrosive air?
Often, yes. LL's overlapped feet fully cover the base tube, giving much of extruded fin's atmospheric protection at lower cost. For coastal or chemically aggressive air with taller fins, extruded remains the premium answer.
Which base tube materials can be L-wrapped?
Carbon steel, stainless, and copper are all standard. The wrap process doesn't heat the tube, so base tube certification carries through unchanged.
